How to update firmware

You can buy the kit for Photon S here,  it takes more time to upgrade because of cable differences.

Why upgrade?

The original Anycubic Photon comes with the Sharp04 screen, which is 5.5 inches 2K RGB LCD, since 2018 there are Mono LCD coming out, and it is been widely used during 2019, Phrozen sonic Mini, Anycubic Photon mono series, and ELEGOO mars 2 series. we also write an article about RGB vs Mono, you can check here.

Now, most new resin 3d printers come with Mono screens, and even with 8K level resolutions.

In General, the Mono screen has 3 advantages compared with the RGB LCD.

Faster printing speed

The mono LCD has a better UV light transmittance, which means when you use the same resin, it takes less time to make it cure, and in the Chitubox setting, you will only need an exposure time of around 2.5s.  In RGB LCD the exposure time is about 8s~12s. Each layer saves you a few seconds, if you are printing a large file, it is much faster.

More durable in lifespan

The mono LCD has a process optimization, which makes the screen can run in the long term under the UV light,  it is suspected to work over 2,000 hours. and the RGB LCD can only work about 200 hours.

Better contrast ratio

The mono screen is designed for 3d printers, it also considers the usage of 3d printing technology, a better contrast ratio means you will get better details on the models, especially in sharpness.

For Anycubic Photon:

This kit comes with a Chitu L V2 that supports 6inch mono LCD.

You only need to follow our installation video.

Anycubic original Photon

Adjust the settings on CHITUBOX

You can use the setting of Mars 2 pro or add the default printer directly from CHITUBOX after upgrading this kit because the V2 board can only recognize .ctb file format, the original Photon use .photon format won’t be read.

The board comes with the right firmware, no need to update it.

The actual printing size will be bigger than 5.5 inches but not reach 6.08inch after modifying, please use this setting below.

build area offset

If your Z-axis direction is not right, you can edit the parameter file M8004 to fix it,

Or print this file we edited for you directly, and download it here.

  1. Easy to follow instructions, especially if you read the comments on the youtube video about how to properly install the LCD.
When I upgraded, my motherboard fan stayed on all the time. Easy fix, kind of described on Chitu’s support page here:

Short story, simply save these parameters to a txt file with a .gcode extension (i.e., update.gcode) on a USB stick and print the file from your 3D printer. Fun shuts off and only comes one when printing.

    –Start File–

M8030 T-2 ; 0: If set to 0, the default does not turn
; 1: 1:0 Once exposed, the fan 2 will turn, no exposure, the fan will stop LED
    ;-1:<0 keeps on
;-2: Open when the file is printed, closed when not printing

    –End File–

  2. the install was really fiddly, and it took me two goes to get the screen the right way up, but now its in and working it is great. Way faster, nice clean prints.
the only issue I have is that I use lychee slicer, and the build volume comes up wrong, it tries to print outside of the available are. maybe its the tape holding the screen down, i don’t know, but i get my images clipped. The option to add offset to the build volume shown in the instructions here is missing in lychee. Be nice if you guys could put a profile together for lychee that we can import where the resolution/pixel size and print area is correct
